ISLA CARROLL AND CATAMOUNT ADVANCE-- POLO SEMI FINALS JOE BARRY

WELLINGTON, FL – Silvestre Donovan's five goals from the field backed up by Shane Rice's five, clinched Isla Carroll a spot in the semifinals of the NAPL Joe Barry Memorial Cup today at International Polo Club Palm Beach by defeating Patagones 13-11.

“It was a rocky start,” said Isla Carroll's Shane Rice, who scored four penalty goals during the first half. “But then Sugar really got us going.”

Teammate Sugar Erskine was named the game's most valuable player as he scored three consecutive goals during the first two chukkers.

“We tried to stick with our game plan today and it worked for us,” said Erskine, who added the team had broken its strategy in its earlier games this tournament.

Patagones fell behind by five goals at the half and mounted a strong come back in the final chukkers.

“We ended the game with a strategy we liked,” said Carlucho Arellano. “It's a shame we found it at the end. Good thing is we found it.”

In the day's earlier NAPL action, fueled by Brandon Phillips seven goals, Catamount defeated Bud Light ERG 12-7.

“On the one hand we're winning," said Phillips, who added his team is only playing at 80 percent. “We need to play more consistently if we're going to make it to the finals.”

Phillips scored two from the field during the second chukker and an additional goal during the fourth the other four goals were earned by penalty shots.

Catamount will face Pony Express on Wednesday, January 23 at noon and Isla Carroll will take on Skeeterville at 3 p.m. that same day. The finals of the Joe Barry Memorial are set for Sunday, January 27 at 3 p.m.

The Barry Memorial is dedicated to Joe Barry who dominated polo in the 1960's and 70 ' s winning six U.S. Open Championships, three Gold Cups, three Silver Cups as well as the Coronation Cup and Camacho Cup. Barry was inducted into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999.
International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120 th Avenue South in Wellington and hosts professional polo tournaments until April 20.
